Dogs are a great thief deterrent. Just being there is usually enough but one that gives no impression of being friendly is highly effective!

That's Shastya. She likes people and I get plenty of them coming up to pet her when we walk (though, some people are afraid of her eyes and stay away). I usually don't mind, but it'd be nice to have a guard dog one of these days. :/

I noticed when I had my Aussies, blue eyes have an effect on people.
Also, the best guard dog is usually the one that never shows any sign of it. They are more likely to come through for ya than the old alligator on a leash is ;)
